are we really?

…drum roll please. Introducing my beginnings of bear man.

This was the face that came to great me today and bring me lunch prior to my interview. No going to lie. I love you, but I really hope this doesn’t last all month….
So, Its now November, hasn’t this year flown by incredibly fast? Last night the man notified me that he was going to participate in a little “tradition”;”event”;”idiocracy” know as Novembeard. Apparently, it is the “manly” thing to do, however nearly every month they have some sort of lunacy as such; also known as – no-shave-november, novembuhairy, decembeard, januhairy, febuhairy;
just to name a few. The only meme to partaking in this man-fest is that they do not shave throughout the month (trimming is somehow is allowed -thankfully). So this month my handsome usually clean shaven man will change from this. To something like this… ikarumba! I am slightly frightened. And partially praying that he will get annoyed with it within a few weeks…
I hate this holiday I would personally love if we could just skip straight from 30october and hop right on into December. Heck I would even take the week after thanksgiving! (but that is a story for a different day) Where was I. Yes, I hate despise loathe halloween, I ahbor most of what is associated with it, well besides cute little kids, and buying 75 cent bags of candy corn the day after. But that is <partially> besides the point. I remember back in the {good ole} days, getting so excited the week the stores started putting everything out for halloween, I loved picking my costume – which usually ended up being a disney princess or a gymnast/dancer. I always loved it because it gave me a chance to be someone else, someone that my clumsy body may never get the chance to really be. But once I got into junior high, the stigma wore off, as did the gleeful joy of pursuing a years worth of candy in one night.
When we moved to Utah in 2001, there was one thing that stuck out like a sore thumb – and it was bigger then even the states own “independence day” – halloween. Each year, a month prior to the dreadful date, a new halloween “express” or “___ enter obnoxious statement here” would open up approximately .7 miles away from another store. And of course they were always packed. Why? I have never seemed to understand how such a satanic/wordly holiday is so highly celebrated in a place that is so religiously orientated?
It didn’t take long for me to see high schoolers, even college aged “trick-or-treaters” on these dreary nights, and that is when the bitterness set in. I have always seen halloween as a children’s holiday, a day to dream to be something you have not yet become. To be a nurse, a dancer, a transformer, a police officer or fireman, a pumpkin, an elf. Dream it up & be it. But I am sheerly frightened at the sights that I have been seeing, even in the children’s aisles of costumes there are bloody & goorey. How on earth is this geared towards our children?!
Sawyer & I took photos at our churches “trunk-or-treat” to create a safe alternative for kids walking the streets at night & showing them that everything can be done safely. Here are a few photos from this morning, breeze on over to my facebook page or my flickr for more of them! As well, I begrudgley decided to buck it up and dress up for a friends party. I was Princess Leigh & Sawyer was a Jedi Knight, our costumes were kick-a however, I may have stolen the idea from a fellow blogger.
